  • Team Hope News

Meredith Murray and her horse Shiners Romeo are the End of Year AQHA High Point Horse and Rider in the Equestrians with Disabilities (EWD) division! Meredith began riding with HOH in 1998 when she was seven years old. She was on the very first show team we ever took to a show many years ago, then she took a brief hiatus from riding to finish high school. Meredith is a freshman at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin and began showing again last summer with the newest addition to our horse family, Shiners Romeo (Romeo). Romeo was donated to our center by Marcia Gillespie from Oklahoma. Romeo is a retired reining horse who quickley learned to like the work at Horses of Hope. His job at Horses of Hope is relatively easy compared to the hard, fast work that a of a competitive reining horse. Winning these awards means that we get to take a trip to San Antonio, Tx for the AQHA Awards Banquet in March to see Meredith accept her award and for us to accept Romeo's award on his behalf :-) Other members from last years show team received end of year awards from the Ozark Quarter Association. Sarah Smittle, Jessie Naaykens, Meredith Murray, Kevin Feather and Forrest Terry all received beautiful "AQHA Champion" buckles at the awards banquet on January 10. Sarah was also the Year End High Point Rider in the EWD division with the Kansas Quarter Horse Association.

  • 11 Annual Country Christmas Dinner Theater

The 2008 Country Christmas Dinner Theater (CCDT) was our most succesful event ever! We are so thankful to have so much wonderful community support, especially during this time of economic hardship in our country. Many thanks go out to Shannon Justice, Dr. Ron Edwards and Charlie and Sherry Smith and all of the kitchen crew. The meal was wonderful and no one went away hungry. The "Auction Queens" (Christy, Gwen, Theresa and Callie) were successful once again in making the silent and live auctions our biggest money maker ever! The play this year, "The Next Noel" was probably the best play yet. Allen McColm and Lola Wade did a fabulous job of directing the play cast, which included our own HOH riders along with many young actors from the community. My favorite scene was when our "herd" of sheep and cattle entered the manger scene! We even had a camel thanks to the creativity of Mindy Mayfield and her son Clayton. The Duling Band from Girard provided great music to kick off each evening and created quite the party atmosphere for us. Many thanks to the Amyx families for their support to sponsor The Duling Band again this year. We also kicked off the "Stuff Our Boots" campaign in conjunction with the CCDT and it has been very successful. The money raised through this campaign will go towards our Sponsorship for Scholarship Program. Thanks to the generous support of all who contributed, we can once again sponsor riders who otherwise would not be able to receive services from HOH. We are so grateful to have so many friends and supporters to help us continue our mission "To provide hope to all riders" in the four state area! V.S.
