RUNNING FOR THE CAUSE by Vallerie

It is 64 days til the Mother Road Marathon!

My training has been going great!  I did a 20 miler 2 weeks ago maintaining an easy 13 min per mile pace throughout. (that cracks me up that I can say "easy" when referring to a 20 mile run) This weekend I will do 8, mile repeats (these kill me) and next weekend is a 22 mile training run.  (Hello 4 a.m. for that one) But on to more important things....I have my outfit that I will be wearing for the marathon.  I have some new Asics shoes that are wonderful, and I have a Nuu-Muu running dress!  It is adorable and comfy and I love it!  I wore it this morning for a 5 miler and it is great.  NOTE:  Do NOT let someone take a picture of you at the end of a 5 mile run.

How cute I feltHow cute I felt

No matter how cute you feel....you WON'T look that cute.

I have a few goals for this marathon:

A.) FINISH-UPRIGHT AND NOT BLOODY

B.) Finish in 5 1/2 hours

C.) Raise money for the Horses of Hope Scholaship Fund

I want to share Tabi's story with you and how riding at Horses of Hope has benefitted her.

"My accident happened June 1, 2000 I was driving home when I swerved to miss an animal which caused my car to flip off an 80ft embankment. I was sixteen at the time. Originally I had no feeling below my neck and couldn't breathe on my own.  I have regained much of my abilities and continue to regain more as time progresses. I have found that of all the therapies I have tried I gain the most progress with horseback riding.  I also gain a great since of freedom and joy while riding. I have regained back muscles, better balance, arm strength and better mobility. Also, my over all stamina increased and I gained confidence because of the amazing changes that occurred in my abilities each time I rode. Originally I was paralyzed from my neck down, my diagnosis was a C6,C7 incomplete Quadriplegic."
